Aigues-Mortes
The origins of Aigues-Mortes are lost in the mists of time. Men fished, gathered salt and tamed the vagaries of the wild, malarial climate long before the designs and actions of Louis IX in the thirteenth century put the spotlight on the history of these places. From then on, Aigues-Mortes, a rugged mass set in a vast expanse, never ceased to evolve and surprise, inexorably passing through wars, conflicts and eras of peace and misery. Its towers and ramparts will be marked by the imprint of time, haunted by the mystery of their resistance.
Today, Aigues-Mortes has preserved its bullfighting traditions. A Mecca for Camargue gastronomy, it looks to the Mediterranean and combines the secret of the past with the charm of the future.
